I don't know, I'm probably interpreting this way too much but it seems like it's a little deeper than racial issues that are pushing them apart. By her continuing to tell him to "look away" it seems like she's hurting herself and there's nothing he can do to stop her. I don't know how her saying "daddy's home" has anything to do with that, maybe she's crazy, I'm not sure. He says, "I don't want to deal with it anymore" and he can't "let her be." I'm probably analyzing too much but that was my first thought when I heard it.
