I remember listening to this about a month ago and at the lyric "When you lay your head on your pillow I'll be gone, I'll be gone", I thought, for who knows what reason, "something's not right here" and the lyrics became very dark to me (as they are I guess). and it was just a passing thought that i forgot about, but now.. :( what happened to him? this is all so messed up :|
I think it's just about going to work out of town. My husband works out of town (as did my dad) and I think the darkness you're picking up is about the fact that you spend so many days away, and they add up- before you know it your kids are all grown up and you and your spouse are old. It's time you can never get back.
