Despite living in the most technologically advanced society in recorded history, in which suffering and strife is minimized beyond the dreams of anyone from just a hundred years ago, they [and most people I would argue] cannot avoid feeling unfulfilled. There's something missing; and since we [people in general] can't seem to figure out what that something might be we try to fill that void with all sorts of things, searching desperately for what that something. In their case, they think that something is a lost love [or loves].
