Pretty simple.
I think it's about a guy who's tired of his shitty life (bowing down to others for example - "too many people stepping over me", and being insecure etc. - "i don't really know who i am") and wants to finally change it for the better ("it's time for me to take a stand" and "all i want is a little of the good life").
However in the bridge it looks like after experiencing some of "the good life" he's beginning to doubt if it's as desirable as he first thought (i always wanted it this way/i never wanted it this way").
See I agree with you for alot of that, but I don't think the change was for the better. Because his change to the good life involves primarily "haveing a good time" it seems to me that the misuse of drugs, sex, and alcohaul are what "the good life" in this song portrays.

An actual good life almost always involves hard work and sacrificing temperary satisfaction in order to make your future better. If someone is looking for the good life, and their only goal is to have a good time, they probably won't really have...
