I also agree that he is saying that he has become self centered in his relationships. But i think you guys are forgetting the main phrase "I was once a loyal lover, whose lips did never seek another" I think this would imply that he had a naive love that didn't turn out well... causing him to become the way that he is now, not that he's just that way with no reason.
