This song is not about how the Americans never change because of Vietnam or Iraq. That doesn't even make sense.

This song is about the erie similarities between the Vietnam war and Iraq war which were both pursued by an over zealous commander in chief despite a large enough reason for going to war. The Americans did not want to go to war in Vietnam but Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon wouldn't stop. They kept sending men over to the jungles of Vietnam. That was the wrong thing to do and it was an unpopular war. John Fogerty is saying here that the government was making the same mistake by sending people to Iraq because he views the Iraq war as unnecessary (like the Vietnam war). He's right about the Vietnam war but Sadam Hussein had to go.

My Interpretation

Good song but is it's title tautological?
