That she ever got up there at all is something wonderful, so it's about reaching out for your dreams and swinging with them for a while. Might be a personal reference there; Patty Griffin married and divorced young. The broken heart might even be hers too but not sure if she sealed it with potion. Maybe the potion is her art, her music. Nice contrast between the girlishness of a pink dress and the old trapeze artist just about hanging on to it all. Many of Patty's songs draw you inside them completly for a moment or two. Beautiful words, beautiful voice. She's a wise woman; easy to be in love with her. If only she hadn't drunk that potion!
