personally i think this song is about someone, a guy, has loved someone else, a girl, for as long as he can remember and he has been trying to get her to love him back and eventually he succeeds.

and after some time she realizes he has become a completely different person (Excuse me, do I even know you?), maybe because he has gotten involved in drugs, or he has become famous and has gotten his head in the clouds. (I've been living in the light of the world,) he notices that she has changed as well (The final piece that I need is that spark in your eye. Where did it go?) and he realizes that it is his fault and tries to fix it in multiple different ways including prayer (the sky hears my plea.), but has no idea of how (even you can't change me now.)

but in the end he decides to just go on admiring the girl from afar (maybe I was meant to live this way, in a love struck kind of way.).

idk. this is just how i saw this song, if you have a different interpretation then das kuul.
