This is what I hear. I thought that the last line didn't make sense/could've been something else but that's what I heard every time.

The meaning? This song reminds me of the demands of superstardom."changing your visions" and following the demands of what's hot now. "Giving us a sound" that we like and can overexploit. "Keep your ears to the ground" you're music style gonna sink to the low standards of pop music these days. It also seems to talk about how people easily are convinced to change to fit their record company's/fans'/demands ("its not too much to ask of you baby, why don't you come around...etc") and how you can "lose your mind" while going through this crazy life. And with that missing verse, at least my version seems like the "you" is trying to convince everyone (and themself) that they like this "new them" but they now can't get out of it and everyone else knows that this person screwed up and will never be the same.
