Such an amazing song. Although it's fairly obvious that "Max" has crashed his car in to the water it can be interpreted as feeling helpless and giving your all to get a message across to people who don't seem to want to hear it.
I think the first verse could be about feeling like he's being heard and he can't believe that people are actually listening. His window of opportunity is open and people are rushing in to hear what he has to say, and he can't believe it's happening.
And then people start ignoring him...
The chorus is his window of opportunity caving in and he's trying to call out hoping someone will hear him.
Second verse is him trying to think back to where it went wrong, but it's pointless and he ends up at a loss. He gets delusional in his thinking in the end winds up with nothing but himself and his message.
"Peace be the day dawning" is obviously him begging for the new day to bring him some sort of resolve, "Light of the winter I am falling" ...have no idea with that one...
