The "I can almost see the wizard through the curtains" part is similar to the "We must make it hard to look so easy doing something so hard"..
When magicians perform tricks they have mirrors and ropes behind the curtains.. but since we like to make things harder than they look, we put wizards behind the curtains to do things that a couple of wires and mirrors can do..
