I think we all could agree that no matter what the lyrics in a song, 90% of all people will interperate it as a love song. But dont you think that Albarn would have something better to write songs about at an age of 40 than a damn long distance relationship? Maybe in his diary but not in such a deep and philosophical album as Demon Days. If the song would have been about him liking a girl he wouldnt write the line "I like the girl".
As with many of gorillaz-songs, the lyrics are really hard to interperate. But maybe something about a longing for someone or something above ourselves to help us define our existence. Just like we try to find life on other planets but allways find just another "dead" planet.
