"So go gentle in this dark, dark night" I think it's a reference to Dylan Thomas's poem, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, written for his father.

I do think this song has an environmental message, but I read somewhere that it is a love song too. I love the apocalyptic references in this album. More accurately it's like a defiance of the doom and gloom of the apocalypse, and a sort of optimistic belief that the apocalypse won't happen if we don't want it to. And it starts in this song, with "Hell and high water, won't stop us now/The future's twisted, righteousness is coming back around".

Ahh, I've been on such a BSP binge lately, in anticipation of their Australian Expedition!

@assin I read in an interview that it started off as a song about light pollution, which it continues to be, but evolved into something broader too. I think someone mentioned here it is about skepticism of technology and the promise of scientific advancement. That feels right. Reminds me of the Bloc Party song "Pioneers" in that regard.
