I don't understand why everything in the world has to be Romeo and Juliet style. I mean... The song has hints of anger/regret/jealousy in it. Not just in the lyrics, but in the music itself, and his voice. I think it's about being with someone who's ashamed of you. Those god damn kids got nothin' on me. Meaning that they don't have anything I don't, so why be ashamed of who I am? 'Cause I know who I am. Do you know who I am? Well I know who I am, and you'll never know who I am. Also supports that. He sounds cocky when he sings that part. As if he's calling her out. Saying to the world that she was in love with him, there is no reason to hate her for it. If you do, oh well. And that because she was ashamed, now even if she's not she's not getting a chance to hold his heart. (Because people are dumb sometimes. Him refers to the perspective of the song, not the person who wrote, or is singing it.) I don't know, that's just what I got/get from the song.
