This song reminds me so much of the relationship between my mother and I.. it's pretty much spot on.
(I think) it is about someone who expects too much of you.. after a while you wear down, tear away from it. They still nag at you about it, but you just don't give a s***. You just let their words wash over you and you keep living the way you are.
It sounds like he has some self destructive habits as well. I'm the same way, if I'm upset, I self destruct somehow. Drink too much, smoke too much..
