John always knew that Tim---I think his name was---had a thing for Savannah...And I think he even voiced it once and she said That they were best friends and she saw him as a brother...
However when John and Savannah had their moment when things weren't working out...Tim was there for her and one event led to another and they fell in love...And she broke up with John and pretty much left him heartbroken...Way across the DAMN world! Ugh.. I love this song...but when I think of that story it pisses me off....haha
