Maybe it's not literal like how he has written it but it could be about how a relationship has fallen apart because the other person wants to move onto something better implied by "must be something else waiting for you."
And he's broken and hasn't entirely moved on wishing the other person will hopefully just come back some day but in the end he tries to get himself to move on but it's not completely clear that he does because he says 'will' and not 'can.' but it does get more optimistic at the end.
