I think this means that politics do what ever they want and need to do with us; make us live their way. And one of the correct meaning "Painting the paintings", i think, it is the way they wanna show to us the 'world picture'. For example, in the news they say terrorist, terrorist! blew up this or that! However, there is no terrorists, it's only what they want you to believe..

There's people dealing with their problems and/or anger by blowing shit up and killing innocent bystanders. Label them what you want.
