They are constantly getting crap for their Scottish brogue and have been asked to change it a number of times but they stuck to their ground and said they were'nt going to create some fake American accent like alot of other artists do. To prove it, they made this clever and humerous song.

Actually, I think it's less about criticism from Americans wanting them to drop their accent (they never did sell or perform much here). They get a lot more crap from English people over their accent.
