I have no personal preference for one group or the other, they're bands that play a similar style of music. You can trace that similarity back, piece by piece, and say that the Fray is ripping off Muddy Waters, Coldplay is ripping off 18th century spirituals, and that both of them are just copycats of the first human (or ancestor thereof) to start singing.
TLDR; Both of you should stop putting silly concepts of who's better than who before the more important part: just enjoying the song.
