I personally think Chris combines a couple of meanings in this song.
Firstly religion as commented (rather well!) before. But also the attitude society had/has towards bisexuality. He is openly bisexual and writes about his experiences and feelings in his songs. This is one is a clear example of this. I also think he is condemming religious attitudes towards homosexual sex etc etc.
