Red Paper Bag Lyrics

A song about wanting to get revenge after a breakup, I should think.

Perhaps the author is suggesting that the "red paper bag" "Safe from supply and demand" is equivalent to bottling (or bagging) her anger and upset. This interpretation is evidenced in the lines "I'm just about dead from this tragedy, or am I? She says with a grin?". A part of her that is not her normal self is wanting revenge for the hurt.

In the end she just wants to crawl into the warmth and perceived security of a blanket while she impotently weeps: "I'll just put the two corners together" (to fold a blanket over herself) "as I bury my head in the pillow" (another reference to the bed and not facing reality) and "perhaps in another life" (this line presents the suggestion that she can't face reality).

My Interpretation

I recall from one of Sarah's blogs many years ago that instead of using ant baits she "asked the ants to leave her home" and this worked for her (as oddly enough, I've heard has worked for a few others). When she talks about drowning an ant with tears perhaps she is equating herself to something small and defenseless yet facing annihilation by the "red-paper bag", forces that compel her to find satisfaction in harming others.
