"Meet me by the River's edge / We're going to wash these sins away" - see Springsteen's Racing In The Street ("ride to the sea and wash these sins off our hands"), and Meeting Across The River from Born to Run.
He seems to be homesick in the part with the Hollywood sign and not being sure if he can ever really go home.
Ok you make some good points but these could just as easily NOT be references to Springsteen. The Bobby Jean one is def, but the rest could easily just be similar. I mean "Pounding sweat beneath these wheels" does sound like a mechanic but not really a reference to Springsteen's "The Promised Land". It could be but I feel like its a stretch. Everyone just looks for references to Springsteen so they see them, sometimes when they aren't there.
