I think the song is telling us to not get angry because it only leads to pain to yourself and others. You may cause so much pain you could end up in Hell. The song doesn't mention what the person is so angry about but it can be so many things. The person in the song is also so angry and obsessed with exacting vengeance he loses the one he loves. He wants her to forget the things he did but it's not easy to forgive and forget.

In the last part of the song where Julian says: "Take all your fears, pretend they're all true Take all your plans, pretend they fell through. I think in short he is saying to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. For most people in the world that is the way we must live.

I think you are spot on with this one. I think there are 2 parts to this song, first is based on personal experience of the protagonist, or a story if you must, where the consequences of his action led to losing someone he loved. "And the ones that I made pay were never the ones who deserved it"
