Actually, this song is about a relationship. The guy wants to become the most important person in the world to the girl, so he gets a little possessive and such.
Moreover, I think the couple has problems, because the guy is really clinging to the girl and doesn't give her a lot of space ("I said, "All I need is today," but that wasn't the case ").
According to me, because of practical problems, they can't stay together (if it's about teens, one of them has to move, maybe) and the girl realizes this, but the guy just won't give up.
In the end, it gets really sweet and tender as they both learn that, if they want to be happy, they have to learn to let go and hope for the best. This is very clear when you compare part of the middle of the song ("To wish for own happiness is not selfish, right? If that's so, I want to hold you as tight as I can ") with part of the last chorus ("As the small earth rotates, I learn to become more kind. I want to hug you once more, as soft as I can.")
So, I partially agree with Hanabi but I think the song is actually about two people who are in love and can't stay together and in the end, they both learn to let go (although I still think they hope that in a way, they'll end up together again).
