I'm a complete metal head, but I love this song, and the entire album.
To me it's about a girl (Obviously) and her best friend. The first few lines (I don't know the muso term for this) makes it clear that they're not a couple. Then the next Paragraph(Stanza?) makes it clear that she is happy with it how it is, and doesn't want it to change. It's a real sweet song, reminds me of a little girl and a boy, or teenage best friends, couldn't picture it with adults.
The person she's with in this song is obviously one of those people you find every once in a while where you can be quiet with and the silence won't be awkward, because you don't need to talk when together anymore. She thinks she has stronger feelings for the boy in the story, made clear with the "I'm right here.." part. He knows this and she thinks he's more ready than she is, to possibly take it to the next level.
In my opinion, in this situation as the guy. I would rather keep it how it was, so you wouldn't have to live with any fighting wars or anything.
