I absolutely love this song (my favorite non-the dodos song haha), though i always thought the 1st verse was different.. I wrote out the lyrics (my interpretation) on my computer some years back, and was going to add it here, but you beat me to it.. here are some changes i had on my version of the lyrics though they could be wrong, after listening to the song again i realize alot of my lyrics were wrong compare to yours.. though i still think there some changes your version needs to make.. though maybe not this is what i hear though:
