I think this song is about a girl and a guy who are in a relationship. The guy wants to take the relationship to the "next level" and the girl isn't sure if she wants to or not because she doesn't want it all to be over "when the day breaks". & when he promises her that things won't change she feels more sure about it, but she's also afraid that he might be lying because the "truth might be unkind".
