I believe the line is:
"Put our hands together to applaud or pray."
Also, is it...
"Got you and I together" or "God, you, and I together"...?
This is quite possibly my most favorite song off her latest album. A little disappointed that no one has commented on this particular song yet.
I see the ebb and flow of a relationship here. Or better yet, a marriage - as the line "All for the better, worse for the way" suggests. Things are better for this couple in the long run, but the means by which they got there, or to wherever point they are in now, was not easy.
Would love to hear someone else's take on this song.
The line is "God, you, and I together" Also the 9th line is "All for the better, worse for the wear"

This is my favorite song on the new album as well. Ryan Adams co-wrote this song with her.. they make an amazing duo.

I see this song as the ending of a relationship. The first verse acknowledges that only time has contol after a breakup and that people separate their belongings in hopes of putting themselves back together as individuals, no longer as a couple.

"Put our hands together to applaud or prey
It's like the show is over but we're too scared to walk away
All for the better worse for the wear"
-Verse 3 suggests that the people in this relationship know it's over but they are too scared to move on. They know that in the end it's for the better but in the moment it weighs heavily on them.
"We're light as a feather
God you and I together
Meanwhile outside me, it was raining stones
You didn't know
God bless your soul"

For me, this evokes the image of a woman whose soul and mind are light as a feather but stones are painfully raining down on her body and it's wearing. Also, her ex-lover is clueless as to the pain she feels yet she is not bitter towards him.
This is just what i see when i hear the song. Norah and Ryan sure did write some beautiful lyrics!

That's brilliant, hume9. That's close to my take as well.

She's going to be in my area this Tuesday but I don't know if I'll be able to make it. We'll see.
