I feel that this song is commentary on summer's almost gone, as it is right after this on the ablum (I forget which one, waiting for the sun maybe?)

"Wintertime winds blow cold this season. Falling in love, I'm hoping to be."

  • this contrasts the summertime situation. The whole world is cold, mirroring his situation now that his relaxed, sunny love is gone. He needs a pick me up basically, partially just a sex me up but also maybe a deeper relationship to rescue him. Hey it's what Mercutio or whatever said for Romeo to do so if it's good enough for Shakespeare...

"Come with me, dance my dear."

  • makes me think it's a parody of a relationship; a dance i.e. sortof a contrived game? I don't know though, could just be a sortof less sinister let's get together...

"my wintertime love to be."

  • He's still looking; not found. Could be before winter, i.e. fall when he's like, I need a new target so I'm not bumming the summer still.

"Wintertime winds blew in freezin' Coming from northern storms in the sea. Love has been lost, is that the reason. Trying so desperately to be free."

  • To me this is another reference to the summer's almost gone song. This is from the summer song: "1)Noon burn gold into our hair 2) At night, we swim the laughin' sea and 3) We had some good times; But they're gone; The winter's comin' on; Summer's almost gone" Note that the laughing sea now has northern storms. There's no more burning or golden imagery with the winter. The good times that are gone, with the winter coming on, is the love that has been lost. Now, the situation isn't "I have a woman and I feel I may lose her" but rather, "I desperately want a woman" which is kindof like a symmetric, but opposite situation?

I think that he's got the woman once relaxing now giving him icy isolation, now, he's seeing it as like, he was at a peak this summer, then it feel to a low point mid fall. Now, it's mid fall or a little later, and he's looking forward to a wintertime love. At the point he's at it's sortof pathetic, because he had a woman and now he NEEDS a woman to get by again but, it's actually the up-turn of the sin curve (anyone, math?) for him - he's not got the love found yet but he knows he'll be 'desperately' looking for that pick me up.

See summer's almost gone too if you're looking into this song. Can't believe no one mentioned that yet, it's obvious they're linked even BEFORE you know they're right one after the other on the cd.
