"Shooting the moon" or rather to "shoot the moon" is also a Hearts card game reference. You "shoot the moon" when you collect all the point scoring cards in a hand (the goal of the game, if you're unfamiliar, is to accrue the lowest amount of points) resulting in all other players getting penalized with the points you would have otherwise accrued.
It's one of the more difficult strategies to pull off since there are 14 point scoring cards and only 13 rounds of play per hand. If you're missing even 1 of the point scoring cards, you're pretty much up the creek.
