It came out on my birthday a few days ago so I kind of just pretended it was for me XD
even though my name isn't Guadalupe, but...that's just a minor detail, really, LOl.
I think it's about someone that had a crazy night in Mexico (perhaps?) and woke up
the next morning -Christmas morning- beside a girl he didn't know.
"Well I woke up Christmas morning,
and what did I see?
I saw a lovely señorita looking back at me
named Guadalupe, with big brown eyes,
boy, what did you this time?”
He tries to make a run for it, as he probably has before in similar situations,
wanting to remain unattached and uninvolved, but apparently, it’s her birthday
so she persuades him to stay.
The fact that her name is Guadalupe probably correlates with Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Mexico’s Catholic representation of the Virgin Mary…who obviously played a key role
in the creation of Christmas.
"Made my excuses and a b-line for the bedroom door,
she was beggin' and a-pleadin',
screamin', "Por favor, mi cumpleaños!
Stay with me, baby it's cold outside."
The following stanza is just letting us know that, yes, times are tough,
but it’s Christmas and we should just try to enjoy the good, despite all the bad.
