Really love this song, pure poetry. The lyrics as written above here are incorrect though. I'm not claiming my version is perfect but some things are really off, anyone could hear/read. Two versions i know, the album version, as the one i've written below here. And the "extended and adjusted" live version, which i love best, and which i've written on the bottom. (you can watch it on youtube, the version with Dot Allison, Manc04.

She opened her heart To a tearaway (dot: sheepskin tearaway) He was covered in scars And full of heroin Everyone said from the start Not one single thing, could ever be OK She didn't listen any way...

She just opened her heart Threw her cares away At night he helt her so tight in the dark He brushed her hair away She heard him say All my life I've been fighting And making the best of a really very bad lot, very bad lot, veryy bad lot indee-eed,

All you're fighting got you nowhere If nowhere's here with you On my skin And you could fight forever But if you killed them all You'd never win So give me your surrender There are other ways To kill the pain But things [?] will never mend you It's like trying to dry your eyes in the pouring rain

she opened her heart to a tearaway [dot allison: sheepskin tearaway] All covered in scars and full of heroin

Tearaway, sheepskin tearaway sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep sheepskin tearaway

She just opened her heart To tearaway, (sheepskin tearaway) He was weared with scars And full of heroin Everyone told her, right from the start Not one single thing, could ever be OK She didn't listen any way...

She just opened her heart Threw her cares away At night he helt her tight in the dark He brushed her hair away She heard him say All my life I've been fighting And making the best of a {..] and very bad lot indee-eed,

Ah she opened her heart to a tearaway [dot allison: sheepskin tearaway] He was covered in scars and full of heroin Everyone said from the start not one single thing could ever be okay She didn't mind anyway

All you're fighting got you nowhere If nowhere's here with you On my skin And you can fight forever But even if you killed everybody You'd never win So just give me your surrender There are other ways To kill the pain But they will never mend you It's like trying to dry your eyes in the pouring rain

She opened her heart To a tearaway, (Doherty: sheepskin tearaway) Was covered with scars And full of heroin

Tearaway, sheepskin tearaway Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep Sheepskin tearaway

Song, in my opinion, is about a girl who falls in love with a less fortunate guy who's addicted and been through a difficult life. Everybody tells her not to do it and this guy is no good, but as most women she falls for this bad guy. And though they face diificulties, she appreciates the time they spend together and the image of him only she gets to see, when they are alone and together. He tells about his bad life and his unfortunate destiny and the way he always had to fight the whole world because of it. And she tries to help him end this life by telling him he can't always fight everybody and needs to stop this life, have peace with his past and let her in so she can make him happy. And if he keeps on fighting and is not willing to let go 'it's like drying your eyes in the pouring rai'n, his old life will haunt him and he will be stuck in this downward spiral.

It's really beautifull poetry, girl finds difficult guy and wants to change him and have him open his heart as she did. Loads of people can relate to it in some way, the guys a genius.
