This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. I can't help but well up when I hear this.
At first I thought the first line was "slipping in and out of our consciousness" to reflect how the homeless are perceived (or unperceived) by wider society, but since the song is in first person perspective that doesn't really make sense. I've seen "slipping in and out of unconsciousness" which would perhaps make more sense.
