Hahahaha! Oh, man... XD
Sorry, some of the lyrics are just ridiculous. Okay, now that that's out of my system...
Why can't a song have more than one theme? I think this song is about both the moon (the physical, up-there-in-the-sky moon) as well as a girl who is as beautiful as the moon. Some lines can be applied to both (like from the line 'You're an illuminated anchor...' and all the way up to the end) but some just...can't. Like 'A marble dog that chases cars' for example. Not exactly what you would call romantic. But for the moon, it makes perfect sense.
It started with just being about the moon, then after the first chorus it's about a girl and the moon. It's like he was looking up at the sky, thinking about the moon...then he suddenly noticed the similarities between bella luna and his ladylove, so he started comparing them. I like that. It makes the song flow, like we're following his train of thought, right at the moment he's thinking it.
Wow, this is a long comment. Can you tell I'm a Jason Mraz fan? :D
Anyway, I love this song. It's like poetry set to music. Oh, and I love that comment about the night and day albums. rsr173: you rock.
Got an account just so I could respond to this post. I think bethanylb's post is spot on and brilliant in terms of interpretation. Good stuff. Beautiful song. Easily my favorite ever. Now i must hop in my balloona and away with me.........!
