I never knew what this song meant, but recently I had a little epiphany as I listened to the lyrics carefully. I think it might be about a girl who is known for deceiving and leaving her lovers, as it "don't pay to be careful, don't pay to be nice". And then how she mentions the punishment "coming for no reason", meaning that if she were to become attached to someone it would only lead to undeserved heartbreak. And "praying every day" are the people who wait for their soulmates to come along. And she's an "endomorph" (inside-changing) because she puts on a new starstruck face for every lover, and just as capriciously leaves them. Just my 2 cents :)
