"Twenty-nine pearls in your kiss a singing smile"
-Here Jeff is saying that this woman is "real". More so, her beauty is real. By saying twenty-nine and not an even thirty he is saying she's not perfect thus establishing her beauty as natural.
"Coffee smell and lilac skin"
-This is very subtle but Jeff does a great job here painting a picture that this woman is not only sophisticated but beautiful as well.
"Your flame in me"
-Obviously, he stating that there is a burning desire inside of him for this woman
"I know everybody here thinks he needs you"
-Here Jeff is stating a universal truth about men and they're initial desire for a woman. I believe us men have this tendency to get quickly overwhelmed by a woman. Almost like a pre-love but very shallow. Every man there feels that way but Jeff knows deep in his heart that he loves, wants, and needs this woman for real.
"You're such a thing of wonder in this crowd, I'm a stranger in this town. You're free with me"
-Jeff is saying how she's "that chick" around her way. Every man there has at least a small desire for her and he's this out of towner that comes in and is the cause of envy. Also, by "free", he is saying how when he's not there she cannot "just be" because she is constantly being hit on and what not. Now that they're together she can lose herself in him and just focus on their love and not worry how she is constantly being checked out or hit on.
"And our eyes locked in downcast love, I sit here proud. Even know you're undressed in your dreams with me"
-He is setting the scene. They are out on a casual date. But even with their love downcast he can't help but admire her beauty and she can't help but fantasize about him. He's also establishing that their love is refined. This is no honeymoon phase although they are still deeply in love and very much so attracted to one another. Very grown and sexy right here.
"And all the tears we've cried have dried on yesterday. The sea of fools has parted for us, there's nothing in our way"
-I believe that Jeff is establishing how he once held a lot of jealousy. Which might have been the cause of mistrust and/or arguments and tension within the relationship. He's isn't always around and he knows she is very much desired by the men around her. This causes him to be insecure but he is stating how they're love is now refined and much stronger and those days have passed.
"Don't you see, don't you see? You're just the torch to put the flame to all our guilt and shame"
He is basically saying that this woman is wifey status. When men are single they are promiscuous and they might do things with certain people that they might not be proud of. Or they could have mislead a woman just for sex. There lies the guilt and shame and she is the one to put an end to all that. He has the power to turn boys into men. This might be my favorite lyric in the song. And to top it all off, "And I will rise like an ember in your name". Very sexual from one angle and extremely beautiful from another.

A true Masterpiece.
