I took this from the lyrics on the CD- here is my interpretation...
A little early in spring
A bonfire ring, she’s shivering alone
I bumped into you somehow
You can wear, my duct taped vest
It’s my party best, it’s really all I own
Everything’s changing now
And I am high like a star that’s flying
Cassiopeia
Everything’s changing now
She said it’s alright
No, don’t die alone
There’s no good byes
Lightening comes and lightening goes
And it’s all the same to me
Let me in
But then I want you so
I can hardly breathe, or release
Into one thousand pieces
I have broken into, over you
Night shade will soon be gone
But I keep burning on
If nothing else I am myself
That’s all I have to give
Everything’s changing now
And we could live like kings if we take a risk
Or we could live in doubt
Everything’s changing now
Some girls will break you down
Just to see you come undone
Everything’s changing now
Maybe you and I are cursed
Or maybe you and I are one
And that’s the universe
Spin around, keep changing
Spring is a metaphor for falling in love-even though it is early in their relationship; he has not fully let her into his world. Outside, she is still shivering- waiting. They reconnected serendipitously. He is offering to her what he can- at this point it something physical (the duct tape vest). He recognizes that she is on the outside, but cares for her and he wants to let her in-he is conflicted. He wants to take care of her- to keep her warm- as she makes him happy. He recognizes that things in life will always change. Things will always move forward and that as much as things start quickly, they can end quickly. He doesn’t want to put his heart out there and have it broken. She is beautiful to him (Cassiopeia)- stunning. He recognizes that she tells him that it will be alright. He hears her when she says that she doesn’t want him to live a lonely existence- she loves him and doesn’t want him to lonely or conflicted. There is a recognition that he doesn’t want to say good bye to her. Again, he realizes that this is something that may likely last longer than a flash of lightening. She has captured his heart. It all the same to him if he keeps her at a distance- he can’t get hurt that way. She wants him to let her in. He wants her so much that he can hardly breathe. Releasing and letting her in his world is a risk. If he does, there is an opportunity that he could break into a thousand pieces. His nights are lonely- this is when he thinks of her. But he will keep himself busy so that he won’t have to feel the pain. It’s easier for him. He tells her that he has nothing but his fractured heart/self to give her. He is himself and wants to be loved and accepted for him. Again, everything is changing for him. But in this realization, he thinks that if he just gave in and allowed her to see him, he has a potential for something that would be a love so wonderful. But, equally, he could continue to move forward and live his life as it is. He could live in doubt and not let her in. Again, he has been hurt- other girls have broken him. He doesn’t want to hurt and be exposed and come undone to feel the pain he has experienced before. He says that he thinks that they could be cursed because he might never changed, but again recognizes that he could be one with her. He loves her. He recognizes that this person, this relationship, could be never ending- a level of happiness that could be dizzying..things will always change but the love could be worth it.
