Mind blowing song.... For me it perfectly and beautifully captures the deep feeling of seperation and insecurity we suffer from as a society.
It seems to be about someone on TV, or a politician perhaps, feeling the hollowness and confusion for lying and living a constantly false life. - "Lying to the faces that make you a less lonesome man". And on a deeper level, breaking down and questioning existence itself - "What are we doing here, swamped in fear?", "Is this how it's meant to be?" The sinking ship appears to be the man himself.
For me, the whole song just brilliantly captures the confusion of existing at all, and the resulting fear and corruption in society. Amazing music and lyrics.
