The meaning isn't clear to me, he seems to have gone mad. Could be about a break up:

How could you be so perfect for me? Why can't you ignore the things I did before?

But in the later verses it sounds like it's political. In the last verse it sounds to me like he's saying:

When roles are reversed. Opinions are, doomed.

Anyway, strong lyrics and a great start of a great album.
