Lyric discussion by bluemoon05

Clear from the first verse he is talking about leaving a group of friends who we was close with, now the parties have ended for him, 'confetti floats away'. 'Parties in my honour' are presumably his leaving parties. He's 'passing the baton' on to the new members of the crowd because he's moving on. The Silver moons symbolise the late nights they had together. They used to belong to him but now he won't be with them any more they belong to the rest of them. "tell their fathers that i'm on my way" seems to mean he feels he's leaving his childhood or adolescent period behind him and becoming a man.

I'm finding the last verse a little more difficult to understand

I think it's actually my least favorite part of the lyrics. It feels like he's reminissing on what he had. Over are the days of the woman he loved and her joy. There's so much with her that's not with him anymore. "When you sang there" is when they were in a relationship and she was "singing" to him. For such a triumphant song of moving on with one's life it's a little contradictory, for me at least, to end with a verse lamenting about what he used to have.

I think it's just a general statement about reaching the point in life when the party stops and responsibility sets in, specifically leaving college, but possibly that may just be symbolic references.

The last verse is obviously a bit more of a personal reflection on his partner of that time. I think that the ocean, tide and riot in the square are showing that she represents his youth to him, but still with the theme that it's all over.

That's just my take on it. Either way, amazing song.
