I agree with the above commenters. Does anyone have thoughts on what "You're waiting for the axe to fall, but can't you see it lying on the ground?" means?
It seems obvious now after a year. It's a reference to expecting wrath when what really awaits us is mercy. Seems very clear now, but oh well.
