When I heard that The Swell Season was coming out with their sophomoric album, I couldn't help but rush online to hear it! This song jumped out to me, it's very reminiscent of their debut album, and movie, Once. I see it as a very bittersweet romance, very typical of Glen Hansard to write about. A man is calloused and bitter, and yet remains hopeful through it all, for a future with his dream girl. He battles with saying insensitivity, jealousy, and insecurity all as attempts to get the attention of said girl, because all he wants... you guessed it... is to hold her in his arms. He is so patient and knows she'll end up with him, he harbors no resentment for the other people that come and go in her life, because in his heart of hearts, he knows his only soft spot is for her. I love it!
