this song also has a personal meaning for me, im using it as therapy lol.
anyway heres my interpretation
The sky is falling
This human race that we run has left me crawling
Staring straight at the sun
In other words, all the shit of the world and shit that people do has brought this guy to his knees.
All in a moment I notice that every dog has his day
I paid attention, it cost me so much to hate
He is realising that everything will get better and hating and worrying has only cost him.
For so long I saw only wrong
But now to remind it's a waste of time
Self explanitory
Close your eyes and see the skies are falling
Close your eyes and see the skies are falling
I wanted something, nothing, blank, I don't know
It's hard deflecting
Stones are easy to throw
Its hard avoiding the bad things in life, as they can happen easily.
All in a moment I noticed
Hours, days, left behind
On wasted, useless, selfish, none of a kind
He notices that he should have ignored all the shit of the world and lost "hours, days" worrying or being upset.
For so long I saw only wrong
But now to remind, not to go back to the low
That has drained my life so long
That has drained my life so long
That has drained my life so long
That has drained my...
The anxiety and anger at his situation has been getting at him for so long and he cant go back to feeling this way, its possible something bad is happening to him at the time of writing and hes reminding himself not to go back.
Close your eyes and see the skies are falling
Close your eyes and see the skies are falling
Close your eyes and see the skies are falling
Close your eyes and see the skies are falling
basically, what his problem was in the first place. this is like saying "take a look at how terrible everything is, cant you see?"
This is by far one of the best QOTSA songs, merely because it is so sorrowful, but in a powerful, uplifting way. Josh Homme, we salute you. And as for Dave Grohl, he gets his chance to shine on the rest of the album.. yet his drums in this song propel the wonderful riff along at a steady pace.
I agree with perfect5th
