I love this song and I have been trying to get the meaning for it from the video clip.
I have ideas
I think it’s about a relationship based song.
Shaun telling a story of two lovers.....
'Then he looks her in the eye
She considers hiding spades and trumps so bland
Such a crush of subtle ties
And disclaimers wish for wings, in idle hands
And he said baby jump'
it means that she playing him.she 'outplays so gentle' and he is falling in love, but just he doesnt believe that she's real so they wish for wings and tell her to jump (maybe off a cliff) to prove that she i real and to believe that theres a girl out there like her.-i think he can
and in idle hands-that means in busy hands, so a doctor..?
"So wrap your lips around these lies
Just to fall in love girl, love girl, tonight
Into my arms into the sea
Just to fall in love girl, love girl, tonight"
he wants her to kiss her and forget the lies from her past?
so they can fall in love, so she can fall in love in his arms-fall in love with him
"Ladies and gentlemen, the truth
Definition of your tongue packed full of sick
And this relationship will sing
In this hostile plague of hospital soundtrack-track-track-ah"
he's telling the truth of the relationship
it’s a definitions of disgusting/bad truth
you can see this in the relationship-it sings out
in this enemy-disease/sick hospital (I don’t get the soundtrack bit)
'And she said all this intimacy
Well you stitched my throat here like a shotgun
So put your hands up hun, start up the machine
And can I ask you one more question?
Said all this into the sea'
as in all he intimacy between them, she says that it’s making it hard for her to breathe/she can’t take the lies.or he has taken hr breath away
I think the machine might be some hospital device to help save lives e.g. life support.so he can save her cause of her 'lose' of breathe
then she questions him bout when he said ‘into my arms, into the sea’
then she either realises that he means that their relationship can go into the sea-its over (the seas is some sort of metaphor but I don’t quite understand what it is)or the sea is a metaphor of there future life togethe-as in its big wide and unknown just yet
this is sorta what I think
feel free to say anything about it or correct me haha
idk I have to ask Shaun then I shall post the actual meaning
soz i hav e to edit my 1st comment so...
