Lyric discussion by slwriot4zrokanada

While the only thing I pay attention to in a track after multiple playthoughs are the lyrics, I find myself very attached to this track. This isn't atypical of the musical genres I would typically associate myself with, I love the lyrics and the hidden message.

I have discussed the lyrics of this track numerous times with several, quite different, people. The consensus is that this track is possibly about the ending of a relationship. At the beginning it is very straight foreward with how the night has gone for the singer and his significant other. She was obviously quite upset and it seems as though he really doesn't want to see it end. He continually asks for her to take his hand and the reference to water is probably alluding to their drowning relationship. He is asking her to take his hand, for his help.

Another idea is that the person he is talking to throughout is a girlfriend or even just a friend and they are dying or do die by the end of the track. I am struggling to make this situation add up, the only reason I have the idea for this possibility of meaning is because he says "you never said goodbye." While this could be misconstrued, there is some meaning behind it with whether she ended it and didn't ever really say goodbye and give a reason, or it is because they died and didn't say goodbye.

The lyrics are fantastic for how they are not saying the actual fact of matter. He isn't saying what is happening word for word but he is saying what is happening by refering to what is going on as drowning. The subtlety could be lost depending on how closely you listen and it isn't to difficult to establish a backstory, there is still mystery in the actual story that is taking place. The way that Asking Alexandria does a bridge halfway through each track is common for them but in this track when they wash out the vocals halfway through and he continually says "i should have known the tides were getting higher, we can still survive above the waves" it is actually (if on purpose) dependent on an emotional core and it is pushing meaning into the song. If anything, in real life it would be the time that the heart breaks. I realize that I may be looking way to far into this track but I feel like there were feelings that had been put in and this track was not written in 10 minutes prior to recording.

Aside from everything, there is some talent in the actual singing and even if you don't care for the lyrics, this track is still one to possibly say that it is the best on the entire album. It seems to be the most emotionally intense and even the most in depth with how far the band went into the creation and studio.

Just my idea. This is one users opinion.

i think they worded it so it could be about a few different things like you mention. i think these guys have a lot of talent in their lyrics and music and im hoping their next album will be as good if not better!.. if they stay together. you never know with these types of bands.
