Well, I don't believe the song in it's finality is about suicide. Quite the contrary. It's about life's journey. Starting out naieve...then figuring it out slowly...making the same mistakes again and a again...finding out what real pain is... from being betrayed and used, searching for a cure for the pain, alcohol, so called friends, lovers, empty one night stands, and becoming jaded....wondering if life's even worth living...contemplating anything to "get out of my pain". Well seing as how she'd tried everything and nothing worked, she got sober and realized that no matter where you go (to the living room or the kitchen, LA or Alabama) there you are. No one has the all answers, and nothing on earth can solve your problems. Acceptance is the answer and walking through the pain is the only way to heal old and fresh wounds. she really didn't have to look any further than her own back yard. (wizard of oz, anyone)...
