I think this song it about a couple who broke up. The guy thinks its for the best and they shouldn't be together but he wants her to know that he will always be there for her("I won't let you fall apart on your own, you're never alone."). He doesn't want to be with hes for the wrong reasons, which is why he is saying he cant go back, but he doesn't want her life to fall apart so he won't let her make that one great final mistake. That's what I get from it anyways. "I won't let you forget how far we've come" is my favourite part. Hits home for me.
