I love this song. I think it's about a guy who walked in on his girlfriend while she and some other guy were 'busy'. The line "cigarettes burn out softly in the dark" could definitely mean that, considering smoking cigarettes after that type of thing is very common. And now that he knows she cheated, he tries to tell her to relapse into the feeling they used to share. "We are so innocent for you", I think he's saying he's willing to forgive her as long as she goes back to him. But in the end, she chose not to go back to him. The last verse in the song pretty much covers that. Also, I think the lyrics "No, I could not explain the way you escaped; they won't believe me anyway" could mean that everything just happened so fast and he's still in shock, and they used to be so good together so no one could really believe that it happened.

...at least, that's what I get out of it.
