I've been listening to this song a lot lately. I love the intensity of it. I think the reason why it is so intense is because it's supposed to exemplify that devotion he has to this girl. I think the reason it's called "Torch Song" is because this is obviously a "flame" of his as it were. It burns so furiously inside of him. He'd give absolutely "anything" to be with her. He knows though that she's going to betray him. That's why she keeps "angel wings pressed under glass." His devotion and obsession of her being the object of his affection will drive him to any lengths even if this will be the death of him.
